One can experience the customs through the multitude of cultural and folk events that are held throughout the year in the entire region of Kilkis, such as the celebrations in various towns on St. John’s Day. On January 8 the custom of "Mpampo" revives in Aspros, in Kalindria, in Terpyllos etc, when women impose absolute power for this one day. Honored person is the midwife ("mpampo”) of the village, and the finale of the celebration is a feast accompanied with traditional dances and songs.
The visitors can also enjoy the traditional cuisine and wines of exceptional quality, such as the wonderful wines with Designation of Origin of Superior Quality "Goumenissa". One can also taste the famous grappa and tsipouro, fine cheeses, delicious local meat, sausages with leek, huntings, pies, traditional sweets, pure honey, pontian cheeses and pasta in Ragian in Kilkis and Vathi, and a plethora of delicious products and traditional dishes of Pontians, Stenimachites and Anatolikoromyliotes.
To enjoy the taste of carp in the fish restaurants of Doirani, while in the local cooperatives the women put all their creativity into their products. In the homes, every season, traditional flavors and aromas beautify the atmosphere. The prefecture of Kilkis is justly proud of its rich culinary activity. The museum was built in 1966. It belongs to the Ministry of Defense, which is authorized for its operation. The visitor can see in the halls of the museum documents from 1912-1913, as well as personal belongings of the officers who participated in the battle of Kilkis: uniforms, weapons (mortars, grenades, guns, etc.) and regimental flags.
One of great interest is the relief map and the audio-visual presentation of the battle.There is also a miniature of the battleship Kilkis here.
With the purpose of collecting all the archaeological findings of the prefecture, the Archaeological Museum of Kilkisoperates since the early 70s and includes findings from: A) the Prehistoric period. Among them, the Neolithic figurines from the village of Colchida and collection of prehistoric tools from the same village; B) the archaeological site of the cemetery of the Iron Age in PalaioGynaikokastro; C) thehistorical times such as sculptures, pottery, jewelry and other objects of everyday life.
Among the impressive sculptures there is also theKouros of Europos, dated at the end of the 6th century BC, the four statues from theHeroonof Palatiano of the 2nd century AC, the statue of the god Dionysus, also from Palatiano and the statues of the gods Apollo and Aphrodite from the region of Mikrodasos and Chorygi respectively.
This old high school was built in the late 19th century and operated as a Bulgarian primary school. During the battle of 1913 it got nearly destroyed.
The division of its face into three parts, the decorative columns that indicate the entrance and scale, the ornate lintels with decorative wedges that point to forms of late neoclassicism, which is the dominant trend in the architecture of that period. It is currently being renovated for use as a folklore museum.
It has been described as the most important Museum of Natural History after the Goulandris Museum. The Natural History Museum in Axioupoli, housed in the impressive building of the old elementary school of this city.
In the halls of the Museum impressive specimens of the fauna and flora of the region are exhibited, along with rare rocks and impressive illustrations from the creation of the universe to that of the planet Earth.
The Museum houses objects from the rich folklore of Goumenissa and the general region ofPaeonia.
This is a rare private collection that wasgathered after many years of efforts of the benefactor of Goumenissa, the late Christos Alevras.
In order to house the works of important Greek artists, the association M.K.E. "TECHNI" – Annex ofKilkisis building a gallery in the village Metalliko, on land donated by the Municipality of Kilkis and the Agricultural Cooperative.
These projects, which for many years enriched the collection of "TECHNI" are offered from artists whose exhibitions are occasionally hosted in the association.
The Museum of Rural & Cultural Heritage in Europos was founded in order to gather in its halls precious mementoes of a long tradition that was carved through dense cultural conversations. Ionians from Foulatzik and Kizdervent, Thracians from Tzelepkioi, the Judd and Almpasaniof the Eastern Thrace, native Macedonians, Vlachs and Pontiansfound in their storage, drawers and old chests these valuable objects, heirlooms from the memorable lands and from customs that go far back in the centuries, and they offered them to the museum.
This rich cultural and folklore heritage is hosted since 2009 in this museum that is housed in the old elementary school, which was built in 1928 and renovated in 2000.
At the entrance of the museum a small classroom has been set up, with reference to the 60s (old school desks, student aprons, indicative etc.). The "Hall of weaving" is also prominent, while in the remaining rooms one can see family photographs, holiday memories and recordings of agriculture and everyday life, located near the original exhibits to illuminate the same tradition constituting valuable testimonials.
